Thanks for joining me for the second episode of the Bible in Three. Today we discussed 1 Peter 5:7. Here’s a recap of what we discussed and some resources for more below.
ONE— The Background
First Peter is often called the Epistle of Hope. It’s important to understand this hope in context. Peter’s audience was scattered throughout Asia Minor. That’s present-day Turkey. They are scattered because of the persecution they faced for their faith.
TWO—The Breakdown
These scattered believers are chosen by God and have an inheritance in Christ that is sure. Peter tells his readers to put aside worldly mannerisms and to look like the chosen people they are.
THREE— The Bite-Sized Truth
We can cast our anxieties on Christ with full knowledge that he cares for us, but we can’t forget that suffering is a part of the Christian walk.
What kind of struggles are you going through right now that might be God’s way of making you more like him? Trust him in the struggle and know that you can give him your cares. He truly cares for you.
Here are some more resources to dig deeper.
Local Church— Being plugged into a church that prioritizes the reading and understanding of scripture is pretty important. For some that may be a pretty big ask due to previous hurt within this space. If that’s you, take your time and pray for God to lead you to the right space. But know that being in community with other faithful and mature believers is what God intended for his people. I’ll be praying with you for that community as well!
